March Cakes

Hello Everyone! March is here, bringing beautiful Spring weather......NOT!!! It seems to me a monsoon every weekend! Never the less, I have to get my cake delivered, come rain or come shine. I believe that the rain stopped just long enough for my March brides to have thier ceremonies outdoors.

My New Mixer!!!

 

 

Ok so I know no one is excited about seeing a new mixer, but it has great significance to me :)

My business has been constantly growing, and everyone has been so supportive in referring me to clients and telling new vendors about me. I am hoping the end this year, or the beginning of next year Brown Sugar Custom Cakes will have a small storefront cake studio.  That being said, business is increasing, and my poor kitchen aid mixer isn't cutting it. It has been with me for about 5 or 6 years, but doing everything in small batches isn't working. I was perusing craigslist one day, and saw someone had a practically brand new 20 quart mixer, still under warranty, up for sale. I had to have it! You just can't pass up a deal like that. I ended up riding all the way to Hinesville, GA, just to pick it up. The seller was super nice, and also threw in a Open sign :) So now I'm a proud owner of a 20 quart, 200 lb mixer...lol To me, this signifies great growth, and all the great things that are yet to happen for Brown Sugar Custom Cakes.

 



Beaufort Bridal Show 2013

Hey everyone! Here are pictures of my booth from the 2013 Beaufort Bridal Show. It was great meeting all the wonderful brides and thier family memebers, and making connections with other wedding vendors. Despite it raining cats and dogs all day, It was a great turn out, and I ended up on the local radio station 94.5 The Coast, talking about Brown Sugar Custom Cakes. I did have alot of cupcakes left over afterwards, but a few vendors were happy to take the extras off our hands :)

My newest display cakes and linens. I wanted to mix up the styles to show our diversity. At Brown Sugar Custom Cakes, we do not specialize in a certain "style." We are always open to new ideas.

I did have other order over the week, including this cute Princess Tiana Cake for a special birthday girl. I didn't want to do the regular "doll cake" that you find in the grocery store, so I made her dress out of fondant and added my own twist to it.

I'm in an industry where the complexity of cakes is ever changing. Sometimes I watch these cake shows, cakes are blowing snow, fireworks, and oozing lava. Sometimes, you just need to go back to the basics, a simple tiered buttercream cake with fresh flowers. It's just as stunning...

Well let me tell you about this one stop shop called the 2013 Beaufort Bridal Show, being held at the Holiday Inn Beaufort on February 23rd from noon-4pm, free admission, and goodie bags!
