8 hour delivery :)

Hello everyone! I just wanted to post pictures from my most recent weddings on Nov 4th- 6th. My first bride was the winner of my free groom's cake raffle back in February at the second annual Beaufort Bridal Show. She got married on Nov 6th at the Peanut Warehouse in Conway, SC. I went up on friday to deliver both the wedding and groom's cake.

The groom requested a Michigan Football helmet

The bride wanted a ruffled cake with brown flowers

The next bride got married at Richfield Plantation in Yemassee, SC

From New York to South Carolina

Hello Everyone!   So it is officially fall, and crisp, cool weather, fallen leaves are on thier way! Yesterday I had an wedding at Honey Horn Plantation on Hilton Head Island. The bride and groom are actually residents of Brooklyn, New York, but decided to have a beautiful fall southern wedding in South Carolina.
To keep with the southern theme, the bride decided on a sweetgrass basket design with a seaoats.
A topper of orange ranunculus finished the cake

I love this tree stump cake stand! How Unique!

Being from New York, the Groom requested a New York Yankees Jersey cake. At the tasting, the bride was rather jealous that he was getting a Yankees cake, so this is actually "Their" Groom's cake :)

The baseball was made from Rice Krispy treats and covered with fondant.

Really like that fireplace in the background

Just because I'm a cake decorator, doesn't mean I don't admire nice wedding decor. Loving the floating candles paired with the chocolate brown napkins and burlap overlays.

Second centerpiece. Manzinita branches with purple orchids and submerged seashells

Hope you enjoyed this wedding, and to Kamala and Ed, may your lives continue to be blessed by love.

Ruffled Cake

Here's is the Ruffled cake with purple sugar orchids that I delivered to Windows on the Waterway in Hilton Head!
This cake was a tiny little cake, that feed around 50 people. So just to put it out there, just because a cake is tiny, doesn't mean it's less work for me..lol It took 5 hours just to put those ruffles on each tier!

300 cupcakes, 2 wedding cakes, two scupted cakes, 75 cookie favors, rehersal dinner cake, and a locked car

Hello everyone! I just wanted to share some pictures from last weeks weddings. I had to do 300 cupcakes, 2 wedding cakes, two scupted cakes, 75 cookie favors, a Beach themed rehersal dinner cake for two separate weddings. On top of that, while setting up the 200 cupcakes display, my car locked, with the little small wedding cake still sitting on the floor of the car, and I had another delivery to do. Well it's hard to get help when you're stuck on a military base, but the Bride and Groom's family came to the rescue ( shout out to the men of the Loken and Carter family for unlocking my car!!). Well now I have a couple dents on my passenger side door to my  new 2010 car..lol, but it's all good. What ever I had to do to, even break my window, I would have done anything to get that wedding cake out and make it on time to the next delivery. Lesson learned here.....sign up for ONStar service....lol. Now on to the cakes...

Mansion at Forsyth Park Cake

Hello Everyone!  I just wanted to share some pictures of a cake I did for a couple getting married at the Mansion at Forsyth Park in Savannah GA. This was my first time delivering a cake to Savannah, and my first time at the Mansion.  I do have to gush about how well I was treated as a vendor. Sometimes I've gone to venues, and they barely acknowledge my presence and grumble about getting me a luggage cart for my cakes, but not here. They greeted us, opened the door of my car, loaded my cake out of my car and onto a luggage cart and happily escorted me to the ballroom. The Mansion seems like a awesome place to spend a weekend getaway in Savannah. If they were super nice to me, I'm sure actualy guests will get the royal treatment. Now, on to the cake....

Selecting a Cake Decorator

Hello everyone! Usually I'm just posting pictures of my most recent cakes, but today I wanted to talk about tips on selecting a cake decorator for your wedding. I'm just speaking from experience, so I wanted to share information I think would be helpful.

Taste: I dont know about you, but I would like to think a bride would like a cake that tastes really really good on her wedding day. A bakery that provides cake tastings gives you the option to taste the cake before the wedding to see what you like, and what you wouldnt like.

Look: The look of the wedding cake, along with the taste, is probably also one of the biggest factors of selecting a wedding cake vendor. Some brides are not too crazy about having a elaborate cake, and opt for a plain cake accented with fresh flowers, which is fine. But if you one of those brides that are looking for a  Vegas Themed topsey turvey cake with gumpaste flowers, you have to find a cake decorator that is able to do that type of work.

Budget: Budget is probably the biggest factor in selecting a cake decorator. Some cake decorators require a minimum, and if you are not willing to pay at least that or more, then that bakery is not for you. If you are the Vegas Cake bride, and willing to pay for an elaborate cake, then thats where alot of your wedding budget will be going towards. If your the Vegas Cake bride, but only budgeted $200 for your wedding cake, then you have to be realistic and rethink your cake design. Just remember, the more details and the more guests you have equal more $$$$$$.

Experience:  Of course, no one wants a wedding cake from someone who's cake portfoilo looks like it was made by a 2 year old. Another factor that plays on selecting a cake decorator is experience. Experience attributes to the price. The more experienced and well known cake bakers can charge thousands of dollars for a wedding cake. Just known who you are dealing with. I would never expect to go to a cake tasting with Ron-Ben Israel or Syilvia Winestock and ask for a wedding cake with a budget for $300. But, there's alot of cake decorators out there that are willing to work with you and your wedding budget. Just try not to nickel and dime or want an elaborate cake for a extremely low price, because you may just end up wedding cake-less. It takes alot of time and energy to get that final product regardless if you paid $300 or $3,000.

Do you even want a wedding cake?: So times have changed, so is it even necessary to have a wedding cake? Even though inside I want to say yes because I'm a little bias, in reality you don't. Honestly, because I'm so passionate about what I do, it's nothing more offensive to me than someone booking a cake tasting, and then coming in saying they don't even like cake, and are just getting it because of tradition. You don't have to follow tradition. Even if momma or daddy is paying, and say they want a wedding cake, put your foot down and say it's your wedding and you want what you want. There is nothing wrong with cutting into a nice homemade apple or cherry pie during your " cake cutting" if pie is what you like. It's your day, so MAKE it your own!
